Phenylalanine is an essential amino acid so not can be synthesized by the body and must be obtained from food. In the body, phenylalanine is converted into another amino acid, tyrosine, which is used in turn to produce neurotransmitters called catecholamines, including adrenaline, noradrenaline and dopamine. Phenylalanine is in two forms: L-phenylalanine that is a natural amino acid present in the proteins, and D-phenylalanine that can occur in the laboratory, but that is not required as a nutrient for the body. The LAMBERTS ® L-phenylalanine occurs in free form to ensure optimum absorption. Precursor of excitatory neurotransmitters adrenaline, noradrenaline and dopamine these three neurotransmitters are important for promoting alertness, memory and muscle coordination.
