The shark has a cartilaginous skeleton, consisting of mucopolysaccharides, the main molecules in connective tissue. One of the main mucopolysaccharides in shark cartilage is the glycosaminoglycan chondroitin sulphate. Chondroitin sulfate is a component of the structure of cartilage tissue, human body that coats the surface of the bones of the joints, and contributes to be elastic, resistant to compression and, probably, prevents their destruction.
