Cascara sagrada has its habitat in the mountains of the Pacific coast of the United States and Canada. It is a tree or shrub leaves alternate, ovate, acute, with small greenish white flowers. The major active principle of Cascara sagrada bark are the Anthraquinone compounds: cascarosidos, emodin anthrone and free anthraquinones. It also contains tannins, minerals and bitter principles.
