Lactase is a digestive enzyme needed to break lactose (milk sugar). Lactase should be synthesized by the body in the small intestine. However if this enzyme does not occur or occurs sparingly, undigested lactose passes into the colon where it ferments and produces hydrogen, carbon dioxide and organic acids, causing cramps, gas, and diarrhea. Lactose intolerance is not a serious problem, but yes may cause uncomfortable discomfort to those affected, and although delete-milk products is a solution, this can be very impractical, as well as involve a very restrictive diet. The enzyme activity is measured and expressed according to the Food Chemical Codex (FCC), a standard measure for vegetable enzymes which is a better description than the weight in milligrams, as it describes the level of activity of enzymes. This is a product of high power, which can only be compared to other products that provide similar units of activity (not of weight). This product can be used so long by people affected by lactose intolerance.
